I created my first stop motion film for a course I took at Occidental College with Carolina Caycedo called Art Outside the Bounds: A Sustained Environment.
Through a variety of mediums, the short film explores the link between wildfires and the current climate crisis. To call attention to the annual increase in wildfires, Escobar illustrates the causes of increasing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to a changing environment where wildfires start and spread much faster than ever before. The topic is approached with an emphasis on the relationship between humans and the natural environment.

After a remote semester, my classmate (Claire Lau) and I met up in LA to help our professor complete her mural. Our course was called Art Outside the Bounds: A Sustained Environment. This course introduced several themes regarding environmentalism and art activism. My wildfires stop motion film was developed in this class as my final project. Our professor, Carolina Caycedo, designed the mural as a part of her upcoming exhibition at Oxy Arts (Feb.19 - April 4). Only viewable from windows due to Covid-19. more information: www.oxy.edu/events/2021/02/carolina-caycedo-care-report more photos: In Yarrow We Trust | Flickr I will be closing my Etsy shop in order to start fresh with new editions of prints for future works and other items I hope to sell.
My prints and stickers are limited and selling out! They will be up until each listing sells out or expires. www.etsy.com/shop/artbychala/ For the entire fall semester, I've been developing a claymation film regarding wildfires and the link to climate change.
COMING SOON! on youtube and vimeo Still in progress! About 75% complete.
Acrylic painting inspired by Caspar David Friedrich's Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog as well as the worsening wildfires. This was for a painting class where I researched a painting from the 1800s to study its structure for my own ideas. I also combined this assignment with research from an environmental art class where I researched the link between the increasing wildfires and climate change.
This past semester, I took a digital design class and learned how to use illustrator, dreamweaver, and a bit more on photoshop.
